Silently Shouldering the Beauty of Middle Georgia State University
Macon, Georgia, USA | October 2024 | Photography Project
My goal for this project was to capture Middle Georgia State University’s Macon campus Student Life. I wanted the photos taken to tell the story of students on campus especially during spirit week. During this time students take part in a host of activities, whether it be the mundane or specialty events planned. I also wanted to observe the landscapes of the campus as well. I ultimately wanted to capture Middle Georgia State University as a whole.
Over the course of the weeks it took to shoot this project, I took the time to focus on the nature, spirit week events, and behind the scenes of a week on the Middle Georgia State University’s Macon campus. For majority of the project, I took to focusing on frame with a frame composition. The nature or landscape photos in this essay are a reflection of Middle Georgia’s scenic campus and the serenity it can bring. Many of the photos that are included in this essay are composed of MGA Macon staples such as the game room, student life events, and the students that run them. There are photos that capture events such as the Midterm Plant Party, its set-up, and a student taking part in it. The finishing focus of the essay are photos encapsulate MGA’s Chamber singers performing in the downtown Macon area at the First Presbyterian Church. This displays the ease of their performing rituals, performing, releasing tension and going out for a bite locally after, ranging from trendy downtown eateries to the Waffle House within walking distance from campus.
My goal with the essay was to not only display Middle Georgia State University but to exhibit that which upholds the beauty of this institution even if it not always seen or recognized.
